Constructing the Advert

Constructing the advert for our Music Video

Choosing the image for the advert:

During one of our filming sessions we decide we would take pictures of our main singer for our advert and digipak. Diana, my partner is a photography student so she has had experience with taking pictures and using photoshop so we decided that its best if she takes charge of the two products that we have to craft. We took many pictures from many angles, such as the one below, which is the one we decided to use as our advert cover, we both thought it was quite a powerful image even though its quite simple.

Before
After

I like the way she was positioned in this picture, directly in the centre so when looking at the image you are drawn to her. We both really liked the fact that the pose that she is doing in the picture was our actors unique choice, and it gives the audience a glimpse of a fierce personality that we wanted to show.

This is what Diana said "I found the original photo was slightly cream coloured so I decided to brighten the photo and change the colour settings to a whiter tone."

Even though the image does look quite simple i think that it still gives a very powerful image of our singer.

Experimentation:

In these images Diana was experimenting with different types of fonts and different ways that she could lay out the text. I really like the large font that she used for the name of the album, i think that even though its quite bold it doesn't distract from the image.

The Final Edit

This is what Diana had decided to be the final Edit for our advert. She added logos of most popular music apps - this would show the viewer where to find this music. Diana was very good at making the artist and album name clear and easy to read. At the bottom of this advert she included a review from The Times newspaper - to persuade the viewer that this music is worth listening to if this newspaper review says that. She added a website link at the bottom too, this enables the viewer to explore more about the artist, and find more of their music.

Overall i think that our advert is very unique. Even though it looks simple, it helps portray the artists character - strong and independent. Having her in the black dress form the music video is almost like giving the viewers a sneak peak of the video.

Rough Cut // Feedback

Rough Cut Feedback

This is our finished rough cut for our music video. I think that we were quite successful at including different features in our music video.

We got our classmates to watch our rough cut and give us feedback about how we could improve and what they thought was very effective.

We got some very helpful feedback and advice to improve our video. One of the most important pieces of feedback that we received was that we needed to make sure that our camera stayed focused throughout the whole video as it very distracting and makes the video look messy.

We also were told that there were small bits of lip sync that were not exactly perfectly synchronise. So not only when we film but when editing the final video we need to make sure that the lip sync is perfect.

Editing Music Video 2

Adding the finishing touches to the music video, i used some colour correction tools on adobe premier to make my music video look glossy. Especially for the chorus footage as it was very dark and dull when first filmed.

First i brightened all the colours on all of the bits of footage that i have, this made the images look brighter and more alive. I decided to not change the contrast as it made my footage look animated which i didn't want.

I also used the "Luma Curve" which allowed me to fix certain colours and be able to brighten colours which made the footage look brighter and more colourful and vibrant.

Below is the before and after having used the "Luma Curve"

Editing the Music Video 1

Editing - One

In my first editing session i began by creating the intro of the song with the footage i had filmed that week. I created about 20 seconds of the song and i used various transitions for the footage. I used markers to mark where each beat was in the song so that my editing to the beat was perfectly edited.

When i go to edit next i want to focus on getting the chorus finished as it is repeated throughout the song many times, and it would be easy for me just to copy the sequence and place it in the areas of the chorus and change it up just a little so that it's not too repetitive.

Filming the Music Video - Day 3

Day 3

During this filming session we got a few shots of the main singer at the park. We had shots of her on the bridge and we also added a location on site without planning to because we thought it would fit the scene we were trying to create.

We filmed some quick shots in all the different locations that were marked. Although we did not have a lot of time for all the shots that i wanted to film. So we would have to be more organised the next time we film.

Filming The Music Video - Day 2

Day 2

During the second filming meeting we re-filmed what we had filmed with the male actor but changed it slightly. We filmed 4 different shots, a close up of the singers face, a medium shot of the singers profile, a medium shot of her in the spotlight and a medium shot of her on the floor. Because i used my Canon camera, i was able to film in black and white without having to edit the footage, this helped us create the perfect atmosphere for the ending of our video.
